2007 Legislative Priorities In 2007, Pest PAC will pursue an even bigger legislative agenda, with even more positive developments for Florida pest control operators, Currently, They include: • Substantial Revisions to Chapter 482 Florida Statues In 2007, Pest PAC looks forward to supporting revisions to Chapter 482 which revise the requirements for education, training, and examination for licensed pest control categories. Pest PAC will work in conjunction with FPMA Legislative Affairs Committee, the Florida Department of Agriculture and related industry groups to effect revisions, which maintain high standards to reflect consumer protection and consumer safety. • Passage of a statewide fertilizer preemption and the Adoption of Best Management Practices Currently, Counties throughout Florida are enacting burdensome and unscientifically based ordinances regarding the use of fertilizer. Pest PAC is considering efforts to support a statewide preemption on the commercial use of fertilizer as well as the statutory adoption of Best Management Practices in the field. • Repeal of the yardman exemption Pest Pac believes that the unlicensed commercial application of pesticides presents a real and present danger to the environment. The Yardman exemption allows persons who are not trained or licensed to apply pesticides when the pesticides are provided by a homeowner. • Increased Enforcement Against Illegal Operators The Legal enforcement of Florida’s pest control laws is imperative to effectively protect consumers and the environment. Pest PAC supports cooperative efforts between government agencies, including the Office of the Attorney General, and State Attorney’s to accomplish this goal.
